Techniques of Observational Astronomy II (AST 4723)

Course Overview

AST 4723 focuses upon practical application of the principles and techniques learned in AST 3722. Students in this course will learn to use professional astronomical software and will gain experience reducing and analyzing photometric and spectroscopic data sets. The course includes both lectures and labs.

Class Periods and Times: Tuesday Period 7 (1:55-2:45 pm)
Lab Locations: BRT 07
Lab Periods and Times: Thursday 10-E3 (5:10-10:10 pm)
Office Hours for Anthony Gonzalez: Tuesday, 2:45-4:00pm
Office Hours for David Vollbach: Wednesday, 1:00-2:30pm

Required materials: A bound lab notebook. Please bring your notebook to lab every week.

Grading Policy:
            25% Tutorials and Lab Exercises
            10% Imaging and Photometry Lab
            10% Spectroscopy Lab
              5% TAC Review
            50% Independent Projects
