Opportunities for Prospective Students
My research presents many opportunities for involving students at a variety of levels (undergraduates through postdoctoral scholars). I encourage interested students to talk to me about their interests, skills, and potential research projects.
Postdoctoral Scholars
The UF Astrophysics Theory Group invites applications for a postdoctoral position (to start Fall 2009). The announcement will be posted in the November issue of the AAS job register as ad number 25128.
Opportunities for Interdisciplinary Collaborations
I typically work with students and collaborators with a background in physics, astrophysics, and/or astronomy, but I definitely enjoy interdisciplinary collaborations. Currently, I would be particularly interested in finding potential collaborators with expertise in:
- Statistics
- Density Estimation (in high dimensional spaces)
- Bayesian Model Selection (via simulation)
- Bayesian Adaptive Design
- Programing
- Parallel/Distributed Computing
- Special Purpose Highly Parallel Computers
- Generic Programming & Numerical Methods
- Astrobiology
- Paleoclimatology
- Global Climate Modeling
- Modeling Cloud Formation
- Response of ocean surface to atmospheric conditions
I would be interested in coadvising graduate students who would like to combine research in one of the above areas with extrasolar planet research. Graduate students are welcome to come to me with their own ideas, an existing advisors from another department, or just questions and enthusiasm. I am also interested in collaborating directly with researchers already at the postdoctoral level or higher.
If you are interested, please contact me via email or come talk to me in person.
