Feb. 11: Note that you can edit IRAF package parameters.
For example, the dispersion axis can be controlled via a package
parameter instead of via an individual task parameter.

phase=(time%period)/period, or phase=(time/period) - int(time/period).

Sep. 29: Please use the ApJ bibliography standard (Authors.
Year, journal, volume, page) for citing papers on your
assignments. For an example which also includes books and
astro-ph preprints, read the references section at the end of this
paper: Charbonneau et al. 2000, ApJ, 529, L45. (Ignore
the hyperlinks in the online version.)
Sep. 20: A link for an awk tutorial is posted in the Handouts and

Sep. 20: The format for printing columns 1,3,5 (space-delimited)
in awk is awk '{print $1,$3,$5}' datafile.dat > newfile.dat
