CanariCam

The Gran Telescopio Canarias is a 10.4-meter segmented-mirror telescope located on La Palma, in the Canary Islands of Spain. It will be the largest ground-based telescope in the world. This observatory is a Spanish-led project that involves the collaboration of Mexico and the US (via the University of Florida). The GTC saw first light through the telescope this past July, and science operations are expected to begin in mid-2008. The astronomy department at University of Florida is involved with several instruments that will operate at the GTC, including the facility mid-infrared imager spectrometer coronagraph polarimeter CanariCam.
