Potentially Interesting Objects for the Observing Project

Objects for pretty pictures:

The Sommers-Bausch Catalog http://lyra.colorado.edu/sbo/manuals/sbocatalog/sbocatalog.html

Galaxies http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Lab/4722/glx.htm

An interesting list of times when asteroids are passing close (called an appulse) to deep sky objects (DSO) can be found at http://www.minorplanetobserver.com/htms/dso_appulses.htm

Variable stars:

Search for Cataclysmic Variables at http://icarus.stsci.edu/~downes/cvcat/Forms/varcat_query.html :

I found about a dozen stars when I searched the range 2<= RA <= 10h, -20 <= Dec <= 60, Period < 0.5 d; 8 < mag < 15

You should try to get more information about any star you decide to observe. Note that you can click on the star name for more infor and a chart.

A potentially interesting star: GY CNC http://www.britastro.org/vss/gycnc.htm

Asteroid Light Curves (note - we do not recommend this unless you have previous experience with asteroid photometry):

Go to the CALL site http://www.minorplanetobserver.com/astlc/default.htm and scroll down to Potential Light Curve Targets. For Spring 2003 click on 2003 January 1 - March 31 . Here you will find a list of asteroids which are favorably placed for observation.
