T-ReCS was designed and built at the University of Florida, and the optical design was made by the University of Central Florida. The PI was Charlie Telesco, and in the latter stages, I served as deputy-PI. Though the combination of the outstanding infrared properties of Gemini South, the large collecting area and the instrument properties, T-ReCS is one of, if not, the most sensitive mid-IR camera on Earth. Coupled with the outstanding diffraction limited resolution, T-ReCS can probe objects with unprecedented resolution, as shown in the comparison figures above.
