A Teaching and Public Observatory

The Department of Astronomy operates an on-campus Teaching Observatory for educational and public programs. These events are all free to the public.

The observatory is open Friday evenings, from 8:30 to 10:00, whenever UF classes are in session.

What we do . . .

As our visitor, you get the chance to:

Observe Observe the Moon, planets, double stars, star clusters, nebulae and other astronomical objects through our 8-inch and 12-inch telescopes
Floppy Disk Use our electronic CCD imaging camera to record images of astronomical objects with our computer-controlled telescope, then view and digitally process your images—bring along a floppy disk and take your images home with you!
PC Picture View images and computer animations taken with the Hubble Space Telescope and other spacecraft as well as with major ground-based telescopes; check our slide presentations!!!
For Children! Participate in Children's Demonstrations which reinforce an expert understanding of the astronomical objects you see in addition to other astronomical and physical phenomena
Video Tape Watch video tapes on space exploration and the latest planetary missions
Get the News Get updated with the latest astronomical news and ask your own questions!
