BRT Houses The Department of Astronomy
Bryant Space Sciences Building
The Bryant Space Sciences Building (BRT) opened in the summer of 1968. (See locator maps below.) For many years it was known as the NASA Space Sciences Research Building (SSRB) because NASA provided funds for the building. A stipulation was that the building be used only for research for ten years. Hence, SSRB was originally built without any classrooms! Originally, the building housed various personnel from campus divisions engaged in space research including components of the engineering college, some physics personnel, a sleep lab, the astronomy department (back then a part of the Department of Physics and Astronomy), and the Computing & Networking Services (CNS). Today the occupants of BRT are only the Department of Astronomy and CNS. During the 1990s a few classrooms and teaching labs were incorporated into the building. The Bryant Space Sciences Builidng (BRT) is sometime confused with Bryan Hall (BRY), which house the College of Business Administration.

Location of Bryant Space Sciences Building (BRT)
Note: Do not confuse BRT with BRY (Bryan Hall, located in the northeast corner of the the campus near West University Avenue and SW 13 Street).

Warning Parking near BRT is sometimes difficult at night. Come early! It may be necessary to park in a lot five or ten minutes walking time from BRT (e.g., the O'Connell Center Lot). Want a clickable, zoom map of the UF campus? Click here (may load slowly).

For the Physically Challenged

The main entrance to BRT is on Stadium Road (south side of building). A wheelchair ramp leads up to the front door. The building contains only one elevator but it connects all levels of the building.
