Announcements, Reminders or News Items
01/01/03 AST1002-L: All students enrolled in Prof. Cohen's AST 1002 class must subscribe to this class electronic mailing list
01/01/03 AST1002-L Archives: Missed any announcements sent to the AST1002 subscribers? Check the AST1002-L archives. (Most announcements and course info are sent to subscribers of AST1002-L and will not appear here. If have not subscribed to AST1002-L, do it now!
01/01/03 S-U Option Deadline: Friday, January 24, 2003 (requires your professor's signature.) Make sure you understand the requirements to receive an S grade. (It's not a "free ride"!)
01/01/03 Printed Study Guide: Available only from Florida Book Store, 1614 West University Avenue. For more information, see Textbooks: Study Guide
01/01/03 Course Syllabus: Make sure you read and understand all material in the course syllabus. The link for the syllabus is listed as Course Information in the boxed area near the top of most the course Web pages.
01/01/03 Site Map: Can't find what you are looking for. Check the Site Map. A link for the Site Map appears near the top of most of the course Web pages.
01/01/03 Exams: The exam schedule for the entire term is listed here and in your printed syllabus. This class has no makeup exams so be sure to plan ahead. (However, I do drop the lowest score from Exams #1 – 4.) For more info, read missed exams and missed exam policy.
01/01/03 Attendance: Attendance counts in this class. Be sure to read and understand the course attendance policy. Bonus points are added for very good attendance; grades are lowered for very poor attendance. This class has no excused absences but this should not affect people who attend on most days. See the Grades Web Page for more info including the section on computing your grade to see how this works.
01/01/03 Illustrated Worked Math Problem: The few problems in this class that require math are very simple. See Example #8 for how to approach the math. (This illustration is not in your printed Study Guide.)
01/01/03 Topic Outlines: Topic Outlines are available on the web for all eight topics (A–H). (An abbreviated outline is also be available for the final exam.)
01/01/03 Omitted Topic Sample Questions: Some sample Topic Questions can usually be omitted. Be sure to check each topic outline for possible Study Guide questions you can omit!
01/01/03 PowerPoint: Class PowerPoint presentations for Topics A–H are available in abbreviated form on the Web and are also included in the printed Study Guide.
01/01/03 Q/A Sessions: Check the Q/A page for information about optional Questions and Answer Sessions held before most exams.
01/01/03 Picture of Day: At the end of most classes your professor will show you a slide giving a "picture of the day." You are responsible for general (not detailed) information shown in the "pictures of the day.".
01/03/03 Table 6: This table in your printed Study Guide contains general properties of the Solar System. These data often need updating due to new research or discoveries. Example: Change the number of known satellites for Jupiter to 40!
01/08/03 Study Guide Version: The publisher goofed when printing copies of the current edition of the Study Guide. The current version of the Study Guide is Ver. 8.2, January 2002. However, the publisher mistakenly changed the year on the cover pages from 2002 to 2003. If you bought a Study Guide and it says Ver. 8.2, January 2003 keep it. It is identical to the Ver. 8.2, January 2002 edition except for the year on the cover pages!
