Schedule for Optional Question and Answer Sessions
(These sessions are optionalyou do not have to attend)
[Jump down to schedule]
These optional classes are not review classes. They are held to allow students who have "last minute questions" to discuss their questions in a classroom setting. If you do attend, please bring well-defined questions. ("Teach me all about xyz" is not a well-defined question!)
- If you have have difficulty understanding class material, see me as soon as you have questions.
(Do not wait until the day before the exam to take care of such problems.)
- Make sure you have read all e-mail and other hints about about Study Guide questions or class material before you ask questions that have already been answered!
- Check the AST1002-L E-Mail Archives in case you have missed any messages.
You also may have questions about specific Study Guide Questions. If so, try to identify what part of the question you are having difficulty doing or understanding. Please check your answer carefully using the Answer Key in the Study Guide. Frequently students look up answers carelessly and think they have done the question wrong when, in fact, they found the correct answer! Of course, be sure you understand how to do questionsdon't just memorize answers.
Thus, please note the following rules:
- You should not come to these classes with large numbers of detailed questions on material you should have already sought help on during the days(and weeks) prior to the exam.
- You should not first be doing Study Guide questions two days or so before the exam on material covered many days before the exam.
- Thus, you should have already tried to do and understand Study Guide questions as soon as possible after we cover the material in class. This will allow you to seek help ASAP if you need extra help understanding concepts and working problems.
- You should also have read and studied responses to questions sent out by e-mail so you do not look foolish asking questions already answered!
- I will not look kindly on students who ask last minute questions on basic material they should have already mastered or sought help on.
(If you come to the Q/A session lacking an understanding of fundamental concepts discussed weeks before an exam, I can't help you.)
- Finally, if you regularly miss class, I also can't help you.
Finally, check the Topic Outlines for questions you do not have to do before you waste time trying to answer questions covering material you may not be responsible for during the current term!
