Florida Astrophysics Winter Workshop (AstroWin) 2010:
Computational Astrophysics
January 11-29, 2010

Scientific Rationale

The UF Astrophysics Theory group is organizing AstroWin 2010 to encourage interactions between UF and leading young researchers. This year, the workshop will focus on recent progress in computational astrophysics, including galaxy, star and planet formation. AstroWin 2010 aims to help build relationships between these communitiees. In addition to several invited talks, AstroWin will promote extended interactions among participants.

Venue: AstroWin will be hosted by the Astronomy Department at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Talks will be in Bryant Space Sciences Center and/or Florida Gym. This map shows the UF Astronomy department (Bryant Space Science Center, floors 2-4), Florida Gym, convenient hotels, visitor parking, etc. A campus map is also avaliable (search for BRT to find the Astronomy department).

Flights: We suggest visitors check flights to Gainesville (GNV) first, as they are most convenient (but can be more expensive). Usually a connection (Atlanta, Charlotte, Tampa, or Miami) is required. The next best airports are Jacksonville (JAX, ~1.5-2hr drive) and Orlando (MCO, ~2hr drive). Occasionally people use Tampa, which is also about ~2.5 hrs away. Flights into Gainesville can become fully booked and/or quite expensive, so please try to make reservations at least a couple months in advance.

Local transportation: If you fly into Gainesville and stay at the Holiday Inn or Reitz Union, then a car is not necessary. The Holiday Inn offers a free shuttle to/from the airport. Taxi fare is roughly $20.

Registration & Contact Info: Potential participants are encouraged to contact the organizers directly.
