Further on for more fresh information, please, visit the conference website  that will be regularly updated

at  http://www.astro.spbu.ru/ELS9

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Conference Format and Program

The meeting will include the morning and afternoon sessions consisting of invited lectures, oral talks and poster sessions during coffee-breaks.

The invited lectures will be 40 min. long (35 min. for the talk + 5 min. for discussions).

The oral talks will be 20 min. long (15 min. for the talk + 5 min. for discussions).

For the oral contributions, computer-based presentations are recommended. You can bring your presentation on CD, flash drive, or diskette.

between talks. An overhead projector for transparencies will be also available. If anyone has special requirements for projection, please, let us

know as soon as possible.

The poster panel display area will be about 0.85 m (width) x 1.0 m (the size A0 is acceptable). Scotch, etc. for hanging posters up

will be provided by the LOC.

A preliminary program is available on the conference website. It may be slightly modified by some last moment cancellations.

Please, check the program just before your leaving to have the latest version.

The booklet in the electronic form has been made accessible through the conference website (the size of the pdf file is 10.1 Mb).

------------------------------

Conference Proceedings

A special issue of the Journal of Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer (JQSRT) will be published after the conference.

The deadline for submissions of papers is October 1, 2006.

---------------------------------

Conference place and time

The conference will be officially opened at 9:45 on June 5 and closed at 13:00 on June 9.

All sessions of the conference will take place in the conference hall of the hotel "Znamenka" (http://www.znamenka.spb.ru in Russian only).

Its address is  Hotel Znamenka, Sankt-Peterburgskii prospekt, 115, Petrodvorets, St. Petersburg (tel. +7 (812) 450 7602, 972 4376).

Znamenka is located at about 27 km from St. Petersburg city  on the road to Peterhof (just one stop before it).

The hotel is situated in the park within a 5 minute walk from the road to the right (north) if one looks to Peterhof.

The bus stop Znamenka is in a few meters from a small red chapel and a large poster with the word `Znamenka' written in Russian.

A good map of this region will be available at the conference website.

One can reach Znamenka by the buses 224, 300, 404, 424, 424a from the metro station "Avtovo" or by the buses 103, 420 from the metro

station "Leninskii prospect" (the bus trip should take about 25 min.). The price of the ticket is 30 Rubl.

It is also possible to take the taxi near the metro station "Avtovo" (recommended price is 300-400 Rubl.).

You can also use the train from Baltiiskii railway station to the station "Novyi Peterhof" (destination Oranienbaum or Kalishche,

the trains depart from 6 a.m. till 0.30 a.m. every half an hour or more often, the trip should take about 45 min., the price of the ticket

is 36 Rubl.) and then to take the bus 278, 357 (12 Rubl.) or taxi (100 Rubl.).

At the airport Pulkovo-2 there will be representatives of the LOC who will help you to reach the hotel as it is rather difficult to

do that. Please, send information on your flight to the LOC as soon as possible!

In the case of any questions, delays, problems with luggage, etc. please contact the LOC by

mobile1:  +7 (904) 559 1930

mobile2:  +7 (921) 748 4440

phone:    +7 (812) 784 2243

The hotel has no access to internet. We are trying to create some (perhaps, not very fast) internet access with

wifi connection. You will be informed about the result.

---------------------------------

Registration

The registration will occur on June 4 from 17:00 till 18:30 at the hall of the hotel Znamenka on the ground floor and will

be continued on June 5 till lunch near the conference hall.

-------------------------------

Payments and money exchange

All payments (except for the fees) are made in Russia in rubles. The fees are accepted by the LOC in Euro and US dollar.

The current exchange rates are on average 1 Euro = 34.5 Rubl and 1$ US = 27.0 Rubl.

We plan that participants will have possibilities to change their money or to get rubles using their credit cards:

1) at the airports and railway stations on arrival;

2) on the way from the terminals to the hotel;

3) in local bank offices in a nearby town.

In all the cases the LOC will be ready to help you. Note that it is impossible to use anyhow your credit cards at the hotel. You will not have enough

time to get money using travel checks (such operations in Russia take over 1 month).

IT IS IMPORTANT that the PARTICIPANTS SHOULD PAY for their ROOMS and MEALS (if pension is selected)

TO the LOC DURING the REGISTRATION! It is because of a special agreement between a tourist firm that

represents the hotel and the LOC (such a way allowed us to reduce all prices by 20%).

If you need estimation of your expenses (rooms, meals, etc.) in Rubles, please contact the LOC.

The LOC will provide you with necessary documents with the LOC Chair signature, the host institute seal and information

that you paid the fee, for your room and so on (formulations in these documents can be very flexible).

-------------------------------------------

Social events

On June 4 before the dinner, there will be a reception party in the hall on the ground floor of the hotel.

On June 6 after the dinner we plan an informal meeting where it will be possible to make a brief (5-10 min.) presentation about your

special interests, hobbies, etc.

The whole day of June 7 is reserved for excursions. After the breakfast our busses will bring you to the Hermitage (the

city center). Excursions in this museum with English and Russian-speaking guides will be organized. It will allow us

to avoid long queues at the museum typical of this time.

At 14:00 this day there will be a lunch in a small restaurant "Literaturnoe Kafe" located in a 10 min. walk from the Hermitage.

After the lunch a bus excursion over the historical center of St. Petersburg city served by an English speaking guide

is possible.

On June 8 between the lunch and conference dinner we suggest to visit Peterhof parks and palaces. There will be a shuttle connecting

the hotel and the park complex entrance all this time.

The details of all mentioned social events will be described at the conference website. The LOC will pass tourist maps of the

city and its environments to all participants on their arrival.

Additional excursions in particular for participants arriving before June 4 and leaving after June 9 are possible.

We consider possibilities of excursions to Kronstadt, Lomonosov, etc. and a night (day, evening) boat voyage along city rivers and channels

(nights in June in St. Petersburg are very short and the sunset and sunrise are very close).

For more information, please, visit the conference website or write to the LOC.

If you have not yet informed the LOC about your desire to participate in the abovementioned events

(excursions, banquet, etc.), please do it.

----------------------------

Climat

St. Petersburg's location on the bank of a gulf shapes the climate of the city - summers are moderately warm and humid.

In the beginning of June the average monthly temperature is about +20C. Please don't forget umbrella or waterproof overcoat.
