Planetary Aerosol Monitor / Integrated Dust Analyzer (PAM/IDA)
(Funded by NASA's Planetary Instrument Definition and Development Program)

A 10 micron or larger dust particle enters the instrument from the top. The scattered light from a laser beam alerts the instrument of the particle's presence inside the instrument. A set of laser light curtains retrieve polarized angular scattering properties of individual dust particles passing through the instrument.

The 3 kg PAM/IDA yiedls the most important optical, physical and dynamic dust parameters using 1.5 W operating power.
