Galaxy Origins & Young Assembly (GOYA)
The GOYA Project studies the structure, dynamic, gas content, and stellar population of galaxies at high redshift. Our goal is to understand the physical processes that determined the mass assembly and star formation of galaxies at redshift z>1, the epoch of maximum star formation activity in the universe. The foundation of the GOYA Project is a near-IR spectroscopic survey of 2500 galaxies at z>1 using 30 guaranteed nights with EMIR, a cryogenic near-IR multi-slit spectrograph at the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio Canarias. EMIR will provide simultaneous spectra of up to 50 objects in a FOV of 6’ x 4’ with R=4000.

Luminous Compact Blue Galaxies (LCBGs)
Luminous Compact Blue Galaxies (LCBGs) are high surface brightness starburst galaxies bluer than a typical SBc and brighter than ~ 0.25L*, which are undergoing a major burst of star formation. LCBGs are the closest counterparts of the numerous population of starburst galaxies observed at high redshit, including Lyman-break galaxies at z ~ 2. LCBGs in the nearby universe hold the key to understanding the nature and evolution of the distant population and their evolution into today’s galaxy population. However, because LCBGs are very rare in the nearby universe, their properties are still largely unknown. We have selected a representative sample of LCBGs in the local universe from the SDSS, UCM and MRK catalogs which, although small, provides an excellent reference for comparison with current and future surveys of similar starburst at high redshift. We are carrying out a multiwavelength study of this sample, including 3D optical spectroscopy (PPAK), radio (VLA/GMRT), and NUV and FUV (GALEX).

Coma Cluster Treasury Survey (CCTS)
The heart of the Coma Cluster Treasury Survey is a Hubble Space Telescope (HST) / Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) Treasury Program that was designed to survey both the core and an infall region of the richest local cluster of galaxies: the Coma cluster. The observations contain thousands of galaxies down to apparent magnitudes g=27.5 and I=26.6 mag. In addition, numerous supporting ground-based and space-based observing campaigns are being undertaken at other wavelengths. This shall result in a large, multi-wavelength, public database of calibrated images and derived catalogs.

Flamingos-2 Galaxy Evolution Survey (F2GES)
The FLAMINGOS-2 Galaxy Evolution Survey (F2GES) is one of the three F2 Early Science Surveys. F2GES is focused on the evolution of galaxies, particularly at moderate to high redshifts (z > 1). The fields to be studied in this survey will include those already deeply imaged in existing multiwavelength surveys (i.e. the Chandra Deep Field South, or CDFS). Particular areas of interest include the luminosity function of star-forming galaxies at high redshift, the fundamental scaling laws of early-type galaxies at intermediate redshifts, and the evolution of the AGN and SMBH phenomena over cosmological timescales.
