Star Formation and the Role of Magnetic Fields

This (informal) talk is divided into two parts. The first is a brief introduction to the Subaru Telescope and a couple of open-use infrared instruments (namely the mid-infrared imager and spectrometer COMICS, and the near-infrared wide-field imager and MOS spectrometer MOIRCS). The second part, which can also be divided into two, deals with mid-infrared imaging studies of massive star formation conducted with COMICS and the possible role of magnetic fields in outflow generation.
