I was born in Havana, Cuba in 1971.  From 1989 to 1992, I attended La Universidad de la Habana were I studied philology. In October 1992, I came to live to the United States, studied English and attended Miami-Dade College from 1993 to 1996 were I received an A.A. Degree majoring in physics. I later transferred to the University of Florida to study physics and mathematics. I graduated in 1999. After a summer internship at the Harvard-Smithsonian CFA, I decided to continue graduate studies in astronomy and obtained a PhD. in Astronomy from the University of Florida in May 2007.

My main area of research is star and planetary system formation. I used mid-infrared and near-infrared imaging and spectroscopy to study young stars and the dusty disks that surround them. It is in these disks that new planetary systems are born.
